New Delhi: The Global South’s New AI Capital
A historic summit took place in New Delhi this year for the international discourse on artificial intelligence. The India AI Impact Summit 2026 is claimed in the official documents to be the world’s first summit on AI held in the Global South, whose program is concerned with the use of artificial intelligence for people, the planet, and economic growth.
Among the topics discussed were inclusivity, governance, infrastructural development, workforce training, and responsible deployment of AI, resulting in the Leaders’ Declaration and other outcome frameworks and tools.
Apart from this, the coverage of the start of the summit highlighted the fact that it is a five-day event which the organizers are hoping to leverage as an opportunity to influence the global agenda on AI and to enhance India’s convening power when it comes to international cooperation in AI.
The symbolic importance of having a summit on this issue not held in one of the traditional Western tech hubs cannot be overstated because it means that talks about the future of AI and whose voices will be heard when it comes to determining the rules governing it are beginning to take place.
