Yet again, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has achieved an 'Excellent' ranking, with a score of 93.88, in its annual Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Power; and notably, it has managed to retain this excellent ranking uninterruptedly ever since the signing of its first ever MoU in fiscal year 1993-94. Central public sector undertakings have to sign performance MoUs with their respective administrative ministries annually and define their operational and financial goals in order to be ranked on an annual basis ranging from 'Excellent' to 'Poor'. Obtaining an 'Excellent' ranking uninterruptedly for over three decades is a unique achievement indeed in the Indian public sector environment, and one that represents years of successful performance rather than just a single year of excellence.
The POWERGRID organization oversees the transmission backbone of India’s electricity system, which is set to become even more significant in the future as India develops its renewable energy capacity and rural electrification efforts, as well as strives towards achieving net-zero targets.
It goes without saying that the ability of a transmission utility to perform to expectations on a yearly basis plays a key part in the overall stability of the entire electricity grid system; it, thus, means that reliability matters to India’s energy transition. A new rating is granted by FY 2024-25 to POWERGRID’s unbroken tradition.
