Executive Summary

Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has received two honours at the Governance Now PSU Awards 2026, recognising its achievements in Innovation in Operational Excellence and CSR Commitment. The awards highlight NRL’s use of innovative processes and digital applications to improve refinery efficiency, reliability and safety, alongside its community development initiatives in Assam. The recognition underscores NRL’s dual focus on operational performance and regional social responsibility, while complementing its broader efforts to explore green energy, LNG and research and development opportunities.

Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), which is based in Assam, has won national awards for itself in Governance Now PSU Awards 2026 by receiving accolades in two different categories, namely Innovation in Operational Excellence and CSR Commitment. The category of Innovation in Operational Excellence has been awarded to NRL for the steps taken by the company to use innovative operational procedures, processes, and digital applications to improve efficiency and reliability in the refinery operations, which include such behind-the-scenes advancements in the refinery to ensure that the refinery operates in a safe manner in today's digital age. The category of CSR Commitment has been won by the company due to its effective community development programs in Assam.

Due to the nature of NRL being a public sector refinery located in a relatively unique part of India, NRL plays a very significant role within India’s energy sector as not only an economic contributor for the region of Northeastern India but also due to its regional affiliations and community responsibilities that the refinery takes up. Winning such awards from a national level platform like the Governance Now Awards shows that NRL is not compromising on its efficiency and success for its community responsibilities, but is successfully achieving both in tandem with each other. This is just the latest addition to a successful year for the refinery, which had earlier signed various MoUs at India Energy Week 2026 to diversify itself in the fields of green energy and LNG and R&D.
